Haitian delegation visits Barbados to prepare for CARIFESTA XIII

As preparations for CARIFESTA XIII intensify, visiting delegations are also stepping up their plans to go to Barbados. Over the past weekend, the local CARIFESTA Secretariat welcomed a group from Haiti who visited the island to solidify plans for the upcoming Festival.

UNITED NATIONS 18 July 2017 – With three months left before the current United Nations peacekeeping mission in Haiti transitions to a smaller one, a UN envoy stressed today that the Caribbean country faces the “window of opportunity” to solidify stability, following recent elections.

“Haiti has remained on the path of stabilisation and democratic consolidation,” the Special Representative of the Secretary-General, Sandra Honoré, told the UN Security Council today.

I welcome the news of the release of Leopoldo Lopez from prison in Venezuela.

His release should be regarded as a confidence building measure between the Government and opposition political parties in Venezuela in efforts to reinvigorate a dialogue between them that leads to a Venezuelan solution to the political impasse and economic and social difficulties facing the country.

Barbados building CARIFESTA legacy

CARIFESTA XIII promises to be to be a diverse festival with a lasting legacy.

During a media update in his Sky Mall office on Monday, Minister with responsibility for Culture, Stephen Lashley highlighted several plans for the Festival. One notable feature referred to by the Minister was the Grand Market and Buyer’s Mall.
