CARICOM Secretariat partners with CESCO: More than 80 staff members trained

Eighty CARICOM Secretariat staffers received certificates on Thursday, 8 September 2016, after an intensive week-long training on Writing with Impact. The professional development initiative, spearheaded by the  Secretariat’s Office of the Deputy Secretary-General in collaboration with the  Canadian Executive Service Organisation (CESCO),  updated staff on current developments in the field.

The Caribbean Community’s First Strategic Plan: How it evolved

(CARICOM Secretariat Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)     The Caribbean Community’s first Strategic Plan, driven by inputs and reviews by stakeholders across the Community, will be presented to CARICOM Heads for  consideration at their 35th Annual conference in Antigua and Barbuda, July 1 -4 2014.

The Plan outlines a comprehensive development agenda for the Community, but emphasizes the need to target a selected set of specific outcomes within specified timeframes, with a focus on practical and achievable goals.

THE CARICOM ENERGY POLICY IN BULLETS

GOAL/VISION: Fundamental transformation of the energy sectors of the Member States of the Community through the provision of secure and sustainable supplies of energy in a manner which minimizes energy waste in all sectors, to ensure that all CARICOM citizens have access to modern, clean and reliable energy supplies at affordable and stable prices, and to facilitate the growth of internationally competitive Regional industries towards achieving sustainable development of the Community.

The Caribbean Diaspora

At the last Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community matters relating to migration came up for discussion during Retreat. The Heads of Government considered several aspects of the issue, which was guided by a prepared paper, which included a section on The Caribbean Diaspora.

Caricom ballistics tracking system to help cut case backlog

The 15-nation Caribbean Community (Caricom) hopes a new ballistic information system will help track down guns used by certain gangs and reduce the backlog of criminal cases across the region.

The Regional Integrated Ballistic Information Network (RIBIN)  would be empowered by a Charter and Participation Agreement.

PM Spencer describes discussion on Reparation as historic

​PORT-OF-SPAIN – Trinidad & Tobago – July 08, 2013……“Reparation is an integral element of our development strategy and the legacy of slavery and colonialism in the Caribbean have severely impaired our development options…(therefore)reparation must be directed towards repairing the damage”.

Antigua and Barbuda believes that the region requires greater focus on investment strategies as a part of a comprehensive sustainable development plan to better position the economies of CARICOM

PORT-OF-SPAIN – Trinidad & Tobago – July 08, 2013……Making his contribution to Agenda Item 4 “A Framework for regional Growth and Development”, Prime Minister Dr. Hon. Baldwin Spencer told his colleagues at the recently held CARICOM Heads of Government Meeting “as we continue to grapple with the challenges, urgent, bold and innovative strategies must continue to be devised to safeguard the survival of our economies.

Consequently, PM Spencer is suggesting a regional Marshall like Plan as an element of the overall strategy to deal with the economic challenges.

Retain your Social Security

​A CARICOM National, who is a wage earner, must be insured in the Member State where he or she is employed and must therefore make contributions to the respective Social Security Organisation. He/She is entitled to the same benefits as nationals of the host country.

The CARICOM Agreement on socal Security came into effect on April 1st, 1997. It protects all entitlements to long term benefits by providing for the totaling of all the contributions which were paid to the respective Social Security Organisation in the Member States where a national previously worked.
