The Mainstreaming of “Greening” learning concepts in the Educational Curriculum of the Caribbean Examinations Council

The Caribbean region faces a convergence of environmental, social, and economic challenges arising from climate change, resource depletion, environmental degradation, and increasing developmental pressures. As small island developing states (SIDS), Caribbean nations are particularly vulnerable to these challenges, which directly threaten livelihoods, infrastructure resilience, food and energy security, and long-term economic sustainability.

Project “Strategic Platform to Accelerate Sustainable Energy Technology Innovation, Industry Development and Entrepreneurship in Barbados”

The Ministry of Industry, International Business,
Commerce and Small Business Development (MIICS), the Caribbean Centre
for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (CCREEE) and the United
Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO)  is developing
the Global Environmental Facility (GEF) Project “Strategic Platform to
Accelerate Sustainable Energy Technology Innovation, Industry
Development and Entrepreneurship in Barbados”.

Caribbean Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (CCREEE)

The Caribbean Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (CCREEE) is an institution of CARICOM with a mandate to promote renewable energy and energy efficiency investments, markets and industries in the Caribbean. CCREEE aims at improving access to modern, affordable and reliable energy services, energy security and mitigation of negative externalities of the energy system (e.g. local pollution and greenhouse gas emissions) by promoting renewable energy and energy efficiency . Building Energy Efficiency Project (BEEP)

On December 4 2017, The Regional Building Energy Efficiency Programme (BEEP) which aims to improve the use of energy in buildings was launched at the CARICOM Secretariat in Georgetown, Guyana.  The Launch follows the introduction of BEEPs at the CARICOM Secretariat in December 2014, and at the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) Commission in August 2015.

The BEEPs are being done to address the dependence on fossil fuels and economic vulnerability as a result of the inefficient energy use in buildings in the Community.

CARICOM – GIZ REETA Project

The Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Technical Assistance (REETA) is a four year Project funded by the Government of Germany through the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH with a budget of 4.5 Million Euro. The project is headed by Dr. Andreas C. Taeuber and he is ably supported by a team of Energy experts.

Minimum Energy Performance Standards (MEPS)

The CARICOM Energy Programme this year with support from the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (REETA) Project will be collaborating with the CARICOM Regional Organisation for Standards and Quality (CROSSQ) towards the development of a Draft Energy Codes for Building as well the Minimum Energy Performance Standards (MEPS) for public buildings within the Region by the end of 2015.
