As CARICOM, and all SIDS, continue to bear the brunt of global climate change – climate change that we do not cause - we are alarmed by the apparent drawback by some in the international community from the ambition necessary to limit increases in global temperature to 1.5 degrees above pre-industrial levels.
CARICOM Youth Ambassadors (CYAs) and regional youth representatives who participated in the CARICOM-Pan American Health Organisation (PAHO) Climate Change and Health (CCH) Orientation and Training, are better equipped to lead climate change mitigation projects after completing specialized training on preparing effective project proposals and grants.
CARICOM Youth Ambassadors from five (5) Member States, Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Grenada, St Kitts and Nevis, and Trinidad and Tobago, will soon begin local projects focused on addressing the health effects of climate change, increasing awareness and education on the issues and providing Caribbean young people with hands-on experience on climate and health justice.
In a recent interview ahead of the Forty-Sixth Regular Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of CARICOM in Georgetown, Guyana, where climate change was discussed, CARICOM Assistant Secretary-General, Economic Integration, Innovation and Development, Mr. Joseph Cox, stressed the importance of curbing global temperatures to 1.5 degrees Celsius.

Despite the many commitments and promises of international partners, the window of opportunity to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels is rapidly closing.
