SURINAME TO RECEIVE FLOOD ASSISTANCE FROM CARICOM

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The Eighteenth Meeting of the Caribbean Community Council of Ministers got underway in Georgetown, Guyana on Friday 19 May, with Trinidad and Tobago announcing its willingness to assist Suriname in the wake of heavy flooding in that Member State of the Community.

The Council, comprising Ministers responsible for CARICOM Affairs, was set to finalise a range of issues which are likely to come before the Conference of Heads of Government on 3-6 July in St Kitts and Nevis at its 27th Regular Meeting.

It is my pleasure to welcome Ambassador John Williams to the Caribbean Community Secretariat and to receive him as the Plenipotentiary Representative of Barbados to the Caribbean Community.

Ambassador Williams, a former Senator and Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office, brings with him a wealth of experience in matters pertaining to the Caribbean Community.

BARBADOS NEW AMBASSADOR TO CARICOM PRESENTS CREDENTIALS

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The new Plenipotentiary Representative of Barbados to the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), pledged his country’s “unwavering commitment” to the goals of CARICOM.

COFAP TO DISCUSS DEVELOPMENT FUND

  (CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Council for Finance and Planning (COFAP) will convene on Friday 19 May in Montego Bay, Jamaica for its Third Special Meeting.

The Council is expected to discuss the operalisation of the regional Development Fund which was established to address imbalances across disadvantaged countries, regions and sectors within the operation of the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME).

COMMUNITY COUNCIL PLANS FOR CARICOM SUMMIT

  (CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The Eighteenth Meeting of the Caribbean Community Council of Ministers will take place on Friday 19 May in Georgetown, Guyana. The Council is expected to consider the agenda and arrangements for the Twenty-Seventh Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of CARICOM slated for 3-6 July in St Kitts and Nevis.

It is with honour that I present to you Letters accrediting me as Ambassador of Barbados to the Caribbean Community.

Allow me to begin by thanking you for the warm welcome which you are extending to me today in these excellent new facilities that now house the CARICOM Secretariat.

It is a great honour and privilege for me to have been asked by my country to perform these duties as Ambassador, at a time when the Community is entering a critical phase in its existence and making strides as never before.

STATEMENT OF CONDOLENCE BY H.E. MR. EDWIN CARRINGTON, SECRETARY-GENERAL, CARIBBEAN COMMUNITY (CARICOM) ON THE DEATH OF THE HON. SATYADEOW SAWH, MINISTER OF FISHERIES, OTHER CROPS AND LIVESTOCK AND MINISTER OF AGRICULTURE (ag.), GUYANA

As Secretary-General of the Caribbean Community, on behalf of the Community, the CARICOM Secretariat and on my own behalf I wish to convey to the wife, children and other members of the family of Mr. Satyadeow Sawh, our deepest sympathy at his death.

Words cannot adequately express the shock and depth of sadness we feel at the untimely death of Mr. Sawh and all those who were slain with him. The callous destruction of human life and the consequent suffering that has infiltrated our society risk shredding us of our decency, civility, humanity and intrinsic Caribbean spirit.
