PANCAP CAN ACHIEVE UNAIDS’ THREE ZEROS

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The Pan Caribbean Partnership Against HIV and AIDS (PANCAP) is well poised to undertake UNAIDS’ challenge of “Getting to Zero: Zero Discrimination, Zero New Infections and Zero AIDS-related deaths.”

In his World AIDS Day 2011 message, The Hon. Dr. Denzil Douglas, Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis and PANCAP Chair said it was his firm belief that the Caribbean through PANCAP could make the HIV pandemic a “thing of the past.”

EXPOSURE TO VIOLENCE LEADS TO STRESS RELATED ILLNESS IN YOUTH, SAY CARICOM OFFICIAL

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Dr Heather Johnson, Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat Deputy Programme Manager, Youth Development says, young people who are constantly exposed to violence invariably develop complex psychosomatic illnesses which very often lead to other chronic non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as diabetes, hypertension, mental illnesses and heart diseases.

TRADITIONAL SOCIALIZATION AGENTS HAVE FAILED, SAYS ST KITTS AND NEVIS MINISTER OF SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The third leg of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) National Consultations on Gangs and Gang violence project opened in St Kitts and Nevis on Monday with a call from that country’s Minister of Social Development Culture and Gender Affairs Honourable Marcella Liburd for “traditional shapers of society “to reassert their role in order to mitigate the culture of youth gangs and violence which has pervaded the society.

More to be done to strengthen heritage tourism, says CARICOM culture manager

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)     The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat Programme Manager for Culture and Community Development, Dr Hilary Brown is of the opinion that the Caribbean needs to do more to strengthen its heritage tourism product.

She believes that “much more could be done” to develop the Region’s natural and built heritage which is an invaluable resource in building Heritage Tourism.

CARICOM PRIME MINISTERIAL MISSION TO HAITI

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) On Wednesday 18 October, 2006,   Hon. Dr Denzil Douglas, Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, and Chairman of the Conference of Heads of Government of CARICOM,   will lead a Prime Ministerial mission on a one-day visit to Haiti, in fulfillment of a decision made by the Heads of Government at their Twenty-Seventh Regular Meeting in St Kitts in July 2006.

Mr. Chairman, permit me first to thank the out-going Chairman of CARICOM, the Honourable Patrick Manning, for his excellent leadership of our regional integration movement during his tenure. In his second (or is it his third?) coming, Prime Minister Manning has emerged as a titan of regional integration. I anticipate continued excellence of leadership from our in-coming Chairman, the Honourable Denzil Douglas, to whom I pledge, as always, my fullest support and cooperation.
