The President of the General Assembly, Mr. Secretary General, Heads and Members of Delegations, Excellences, Ladies and Gentlemen:
I begin by congratulating H.E. Sam Kutesa, former Foreign Minister of Uganda on his election as President of the 69th Session of this General Assembly. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank H.E. Dr. John Ashe for his leadership of the 68th Session; and to salute Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon for his continued efforts in promoting peace, security, and developmentthroughout the world.

Statement by Senator the Hon. Wilfred P. Elrington , Attorney General Minister of Foreign Affairs Belize

On behalf of the Government and people of Belize, with great pleasure I congratulate His Excellency, Sam Kutesa in his capacity as President of the 69th Session of the General Assembly.
Mr. President, I also take this opportunity to register our thanks to his predecessor, our own son of the Caribbean soil, H.E. Mr. John Ashe who performed his role with commendable excellence and leaves a legacy of lasting value to this organization.

Mr. President,
It is indeed a distinct privilege to congratulate you on behalf of the Government and people of Barbados on your election as President of this 69th Session of the United Nations General Assembly. It is appropriate that I commend, also, your predecessor H.E. Mr. John Ashe for the aplomb with which he guided the deliberations of the General Assembly in the 68th Session.

Mr. President, Colleague Heads Of State & Government, Mr. Secretary General, Distinguished ladies and gentlemen, 1 wish, at the outset, to extend heartiest congratulations on your election to the presidency of the Sixty-Ninth Session of the General Assembly. Antigua and Barbuda looks forward to your leadership and guidance throughout this session.
I also offer congratulations to your predecessor. His Excellency Ambassador Dr. John Ashe, on a job well done and for his unrelenting service to the UN community
particularly small island developing states.
