Mandela’s recovery is good, says Zuma

JOHANNESBURG (AP) — South African anti-apartheid leader Nelson Mandela has recovered from his recent lung infection and a surgical procedure to remove gallstones, according to an announcement yesterday by President Jacob Zuma.
Doctors say that Mandela, 94, has made "steady progress and that clinically, he continues to improve," according to a statement issued by Zuma's office. Mandela was hospitalised for nearly three weeks in December before going home on December 26.

SOUTH AFRICAN DELEGATION TALKS CRICKET WITH CARICOM

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Her Excellency Faith Doreen Radebe, the High Commissioner of South Africa to Jamaica will pay a courtesy call on His Excellency Edwin Carrington Secretary General of the Caribbean Community on Thursday 16 February at his office at CARICOM Headquarters, Georgetown, Guyana.

The High Commissioner is visiting the Secretariat with a delegation from South Africa to discuss issues related to the staging of the International Cricket Council Cricket World Cup 2007 which is being held in the West Indies.

PRESIDENT MANDELA FOR CARICOM SUMMIT

The President of the Republic of South Africa, His Excellency Mr Nelson Mandela has accepted an invitation from the Chairman of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), Dr the Hon Keith Mitchell, Prime Minister of Grenada to attend the XIX Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community.

CARICOM SOUTHERN AFRICA LINK GOOD FOR BUSINESS

The Caribbean recognises that Southern Africa is the sub-region within the African Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) Group of countries with which it "can perhaps best do business".

In making this point on Monday morning at the Park Hyatt Johannesburg Hotel while addressing representatives of the South African Chamber of Business (SACOB) and members of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Trade and Investment Mission, Grenada's Foreign Minister Dr. the Hon. Raphael Fletcher emphasised that this could best be done in terms of exchanges in skills, trade and services.
