Solar PhotoVoltaic Video for Energy Month November 2025

In this video, we celebrate the cooperation between CARICOM and Japan, showcasing the state-of-the-art Solar Photovoltaic Power Generation and Building Energy Management Systems at the CARICOM Secretariat, funded by the Government of Japan. The 400-kilowatt solar generation project, comprising servers, batteries, and 1,500 solar panels, was implemented through a US$17.8 million grant agreement between the Governments of Guyana and Japan, of which more than US$7 million supported the Solar Photovoltaic Power Generation and Building Energy Management Systems.

University of Guyana students tour Solar Photovoltaic Power Generation Plant at CARICOM Secretariat

Students from the Faculty of Earth and Environmental Sciences and the Faculty of Engineering and Technology of the  University of Guyana toured the CARICOM Solar Photovoltaic Power Generation Plant on the grounds of the CARICOM Secretariat on Friday, 8 November.

The group was the first of four cohorts of tertiary-level students who will tour the Secretariat each Friday in November as part of the activities to observe CARICOM Energy Month 2024.

CARICOM Secretariat’s energy use under state-of-the-art energy management system

(CARICOM Secretariat, Georgetown, Guyana) - Energy at the CARICOM Secretariat is now managed through a state-of-the-art Building Energy Management System (BEMS).

This information technology allows the tracking of energy supplied and used by the national grid and from the Solar Photovoltaic Power Generation Plant, which was constructed on the grounds of the CARICOM Secretariat.

CARICOM Secretariat Headquarters going solar

The CARICOM Secretariat is moving towards 100 percent renewable energy for its Headquarters Building in Georgetown Guyana, with construction of a Photovoltaic Power Generation System set to commence on Monday 20 January 2020.

The Project is part of a wider initiative called ‘The Introduction of Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation System in Guyana and CARICOM’, being financed by the Government of Japan.

PM Breaks Ground for First Solar Energy Power Plant in Jamaica

Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller on Thursday (July 9) broke ground for the development of the first utility-scale solar energy power plant in Jamaica, which upon completion will be the largest and most sophisticated solar electricity facility in the Caribbean. Spanning some 160 acres of land in Content Village, York Town, Clarendon, the Content Solar Project being implemented by WRB Enterprises Inc. will involve the investment of approximately $US60 Million by the developers.

SKN breaks ground on new solar farm
