That’s the word from Programme Manager, Culture and Community Development at the CARICOM Secretariat Dr. Hilary Brown in her remarks at a Reparations Rally held at the Derek Walcott Square in Castries Saint Lucia on Saturday. The event was preceded by a Reparations relay that was anchored by three time Olympian Levern Spencer.

Reparations Baton passes to Antigua/Barbuda

Following stops in Barbados and Guyana, the CARICOM Reparations Commission’s baton makes a stop in Antigua and Barbuda where a Reparations Relay will be held as part of National Heroes Day celebrations next Wednesday.

New ACS Secretary General to deliver inaugural reparations lecture

Saint Lucia will take the reparations message to the rest of the Caribbean next week when one of its foremost scholars will deliver an inaugural lecture in an educational series to be launched here on Wednesday.

The new Secretary General of the Association of Caribbean States (ACS) Ambassador Dr June Soomer will deliver a live public lecture on the topic The Reparations Movement: “A Ragtag Collection of Racial Malcontents Matching to the Beat of Their Own Drum.”

Reparations important to Barbados

Prime Minister Freundel Stuart has reiterated that “the reparations issue is not based on a diplomacy of protest, but on a diplomacy of engagement”.

Mr. Stuart made the comments recently, while chairing a meeting of reparation stakeholders at Ilaro Court.

Guyana launches International Youth Reparations Rally and Relay

The Guyana Reparations Committee on Friday launched its leg of the International Youth Reparations Relay and Rally with an event at the Guyana Independence Park.  Speakers at the launch included President of Guyana H. E. David Granger and Chairman, Guyana Reparations Committee, Mr. Eric Phillips.

In his keynote address, President Granger said the call for Reparations was serious business and not a side show. He said the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade was one of the greatest un-natural disasters of all time and a crime against humanity.

Georgetown, Guyana – (May 20, 2016) President David Granger, this evening, voiced his support for Guyana and CARICOM Reparations Committees’ calls for reparations from Europe for the trans-Atlantic African slave trade, explaining that a holistic plan is needed so the Caribbean’s children “would have a better deal than we ourselves have had”.
