REMARKS BY THE RT. HON HUBERT INGRAHAM, PRIME MINISTER OF THE BAHAMAS AND CHAIRMAN OF THE CONFERENCE OF HEADS OF GOVERNMENT OF THE CARIBBEAN COMMUNITY (CARICOM) TO THE THIRTEENTH SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CONFERENCE 4-5 APRIL 2008, PORT-OF-SPAIN, TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO

It gives me great pleasure as Chair of the Caribbean Community to welcome you all to this very important Special Meeting of the Conference.

Permit me first to thank Prime Minister Patrick Manning our host, not only for the excellent arrangements put in place to receive us but for his primary role in causing the Summit to take place.

STATEMENT BY CARICOM HEADS OF GOVERNMENT ON POVERTY AND THE RISING COST OF LIVING IN MEMBER STATES, ISSUED ON THE OCCASION OF THE TWELFTH SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CONFERENCE OF HEADS OF GOVERNMENT OF THE CARIBBEAN COMMUNITY, 7 DECEMBER 2007, GEORGETOWN, GUYANA

We, the Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community, meeting in Georgetown, Guyana at the Twelfth Special Meeting of the Conference on Friday, 7 December 2007, with a view to finding solutions, at both the national and regional levels, to the critical issue of poverty and the rising cost of living, took note of the research which highlights a number of factors impacting this issue in the Caribbean Community.

WE, the Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), meeting at Needham’s Point, Barbados, 1-4 July, 2007 on the occasion of the 28th Regular Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of CARICOM;

Determined that the goal of our regional integration process is, first and foremost, to enhance the well-being of all of the citizens of our countries;

Mr. Chairman, Caricom Secretary General, Colleague Prime Ministers, Ministers, Ladies and Gentlemen,

It is my greatest pleasure at this time to be addressing this, the Opening Ceremony of the Twenty-Eighth Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community. For me it’s an added privilege to be doing so here in Barbados , one of Saint Lucia ’s closer Caribbean neighbours.

THE CONSOLIDATION AND FURTHER ADVANCEMENT OF THE CARIBBEAN COMMUNITY : ADDRESS DELIVERED BY DR. THE HONOURABLE RALPH E. GONSALVES, PRIME MINISTER, ST. VINCENT AND THE GRENADINES, AND OUT-GOING CHAIRMAN OF THE CARIBBEAN COMMUNITY, ON THE OCCASION OF THE OPENING OF THE TWENTY-EIGHTH MEETING OF THE CONFERENCE OF HEADS OF GOVERNMENT OF THE CARIBBEAN COMMUNITY, 1 JULY 2007, NEEDHAM’S POINT, BARBADOS

Mr. Chairman, I recognise very specially the Prime Minister of the Bahamas , the Honourable Hubert Ingraham, who was recently re-elected to his Office after a voluntary five-year respite from his Prime Ministerial perch. He had welcomed me to the Bahamas at my first Heads of Government Conference in July 2001. I now reciprocate. Prime Minister Ingraham is a veteran of CARICOM; his wisdom and experience will no doubt assist us in charting the most efficacious way forward.
