President Granger to put Guyana’s case to CARICOM Heads, meet UN Secretary General - as Geneva Agreement nears 50th anniversary date

Georgetown, Guyana – (February 12, 2016) As the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Geneva Agreement nears, President David Granger said that he will once again raise the issue of Venezuela's claim on Guyana's territory regionally and internationally. The Head of State will advocate for Guyana at the 27th Inter-Sessional Meeting of the Conference of the Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) in Belize on February 16-17 and later in the week will engage the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Mr.

After successful COP 21 CARICOM Climate Change Ministers hold review meeting

Ahead of next week’s CARICOM Heads of Government Inter-sessional Meeting in Belize, Ministers responsible for Climate Change are holding a two-day review of the ground breaking COP 21 Meeting in Paris and assessing the opportunities for the Region. The meeting, convened by the  Caribbean Community Climate Change Centre, wraps up in Belize City today.

Barbados PM-CARICOM Chair – upcoming Commonwealth and COP21 Meetings important

“Mr. Stuart said the potential outcomes of the Paris discussions would be important to Barbados and the CARICOM region, given the projected adverse effects climate change would have on the countries.”
The Prime Minister pointed out that the CARICOM Heads of Government at their meeting earlier this year in Barbados adopted a Declaration for Climate Action, which sets out the region’s agreed negotiating positions. He added that the Declaration asserts that the Heads “look forward to the adoption for the first time of a universal, legally binding agreement at the COP 21”.

Abolish roaming in the Caribbean’- CTU - ICT Week gets underway with meeting of Caribbean Ministers

A very important discussion taking place at the regional conference on Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) Week 2015 in the Virgin Islands (British) has to do with the concept of a single ICT space, something Jamaica’s Minister of Science, Technology, Energy and Mining Honourable Phillip Paulwell sees as a major beat as the Caribbean Telecommunications Union (CTU) seeks to abolish roaming in the Caribbean.

Hon Paulwell was at the time delivering his final speech as President of the Caribbean Telecommunications Union (CTU), having served for three periods.

COP21- 21st Session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change - 30th November to 11th December 2015, in Paris, France

Climate Change has been acknowledged as the most critical challenge currently facing humanity, and indeed the whole planet. The 21st Session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP21/CMP11), scheduled for 30th November to 11th December 2015, in Paris, France is a crucial conference. It’s approximately 40,000 delegates need to achieve a new international agreement on the climate, applicable to all countries, to keep global warming below 2˚C.

The Twenty-Seventh Meeting of the Council for Human and Social Development (COHSOD) on

(Education and Children) was convened under the theme: Safeguarding our Region’s Future: Reshaping education for the Twenty-First Century” at the CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Georgetown, Guyana on 16-17 July 2015. The meeting was chaired by the Hon. Shawn Richards, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Youth, Culture and Sport, St. Kitts and Nevis.
