(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The groundbreaking CARICOM Heads of Government Summit on NCDs opened in Port-of-Spain, with a strong call from the Keynote Speaker the Hon. Dr Denzil Douglas, Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis and the Lead Head of Government with responsibility for Health, in the Quasi Cabinet of CARICOM, to implement appropriate legislation, fiscal and regulatory measures and promote public/private sector partnerships to stem the tide of the NCDs.

The burden of non-Communicable Diseases
(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) With the first CARICOM Heads of Government Summit on Chronic Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) just two days away, the Caribbean Community has been warned that “we are in for the long haul” and “there would be no quick fixes” to curtailing the burden of Chronic Non-Communicable Diseases in the Caribbean.
CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The African Diaspora at its recent Global Conference held in Bridgetown, Barbados issued a call for CARICOM governments to collaborate with the African Union in developing appropriate mechanisms to ensure that Third States such as several European states, Canada and the United States expedite the implementation of reparations for their role in slavery.
(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) With the passing of the Prime Minister of Saint Lucia, the Honourable Sir John George Melvin Compton, OCC, the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat will open a book of condolence for signature from Wednesday, 12 September 2007, between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 4:00p.m on weekdays, as a mark of respect to this great Caribbean leader.
The Book will be located in the eastern corner of the foyer of the headquarters of the CARICOM Secretariat at Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown.
The CARICOM Electoral Observation Mission was mounted as a result of an invitation by the Government of Jamaica to monitor the General Elections, scheduled originally for 27 August 2007 but postponed to 3 September 2007 mainly due to the impact of hurricane Dean.
