COMMUNIQUÉ ISSUED AT THE CONCLUSION OF THE FIFTEENTH MEETING OF MINISTERS OF CARIFORUM (THE CARIBBEAN FORUM OF AFRICAN CARIBBEAN AND PACIFIC STATES (ACP)), 18-19 OCTOBER 2007, PORT-AU-PRINCE, HAITI

The Ministers of the Caribbean Forum of the African Caribbean Pacific (ACP) States CARIFORUM held their Fifteenth Meeting in Port-au-Prince, Haiti on 18-19 October 2007.

The Ministers reiterated the Region’s dismay at the European Commission’s unilateral denunciation of the Sugar Protocol on 30 September 2007.

They also requested that given the extreme importance of the Banana Industry to the Region, serious consideration be given to negotiating for the extension of financial support to this Sector beyond 2009.

LAUNCH OF CARIBBEAN VOCATIONAL QUALIFICATION

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Georgetown, Guyana) The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat and other regional educational Institutions joined with the National Training Agency of Jamaica, the HEART Trust/NTA to launch the Caribbean Vocational Qualification (CVQ) on Friday, 19 October at a ceremony held at the Terra Nova Hotel in Kingston.

CARICOM TO FIELD ELECTORAL MISSION TO TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) will field an electoral mission to observe the Trinidad and Tobago elections scheduled for 5 November 2007.

CARICOM Secretary-General, His Excellency Edwin Carrington made the announcement at a press conference he hosted on Tuesday, 23 October 2007 at the CARICOM Secretariat headquarters, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana.

He said CARICOM will field the only observer mission to the elections and the team will comprise at least 22 members.

PANCAP HOLDS SEVENTH ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) More than 100 representatives of the Pan Caribbean Partnership against HIV/AIDS (PANCAP) will meet for the Seventh Annual General Meeting of the Partnership on 25-26 October 2007 in Antigua and Barbuda.
