EPA engages caricom heads at special meeting

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) When the Twelfth Special Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) convenes in Georgetown, on Friday 7 December, it would be the third time in as many months that the impending Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) with the European Union has formally engaged regional leaders.

The EPA is one of two agenda items of the Special Meeting. The other is the rising food prices across the 15-member group of nations.

MEETING OF CARICOM STANDING COMMITTEES OF COMMISSIONERS OF POLICE AND CHIEFS OF DEFENCE STAFF BARBADOS, DECEMBER 3, 2007

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The Seventh Meeting of the CARICOM Standing Committees of Commissioners of Police and Chiefs of Defence Staff was held in Barbados on 3 December, 2007 and was jointly chaired by Mr. Trevor Paul, Commissioner of Police, Trinidad and Tobago and Brigadier Edmund Dillon, Chief of Defence, Trinidad and Tobago.  The Meeting was convened to facilitate technical and administrative discussions and recommendations towards the implementation of policy decisions with respect to the regional crime and security agenda.

FORA EXAMINE CRITICAL ROLE OF STATISTICS IN REGION’S DEVELOPMENT

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The critical role of statistics in advancing the Region’s development through the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME) was examined at a series of meetings held recently in Paramaribo, Suriname.

The Thirty-Second Meeting of the Standing Committee of Caribbean Statisticians (SCCS) and the 15th Meeting of the Regional Census Coordinating Committee (RCCC) were both held at the Hotel Krasnapolsky in Paramaribo.

The Twenty-Fourth Meeting of the Council for Trade and Economic Development (COTED) of CARICOM and the Fourth Meeting of the CARIFORUM (CARICOM and Dominican Republic) Council of Ministers – External Trade Negotiations, met in consecutive sessions on 15 November 2007 in Guyana.

The meetings were presided over by Minister of Foreign Trade and International Cooperation, Guyana, Dr. Henry Jeffrey.
