GUYANA SAFE FOR CARIFESTA X

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) His Excellency Bharrat Jagdeo, President of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana has assured the Caribbean Region that it was safe to come to Guyana for the tenth staging of the Caribbean Festival of Arts (CARIFESTA) slated for 22-31 August, 2008.

President Jagdeo gave this assurance to an outdoor audience of thousands of Guyanese and a strong contingent of delegates from the Region at the official Launch of CARIFESTA on Wednesday, 23 April 2008.

CARIFESTA A CRITICAL TOOL OF REGIONAL INTEGRATION

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Assistant Secretary General, Foreign and Community Relations (FCR) in the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat, Ambassador Colin Granderson said, CARIFESTA is a critical tool of the integration process as it promotes greater awareness of the many sides of our heritage.

ACTION ON PLANT PESTS CRITICAL TO TRADE IN PLANT PRODUCTS

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)  The First Meeting of Caribbean Plant Health officials which ended in Georgetown Friday has stressed that in this era of rising food prices across the globe, there was need for action to ensure that potential barriers to trade in plant and plant products were dealt with as a matter of priority.

CYAP TO TACKLE ENVIRONMENTAL AND FOOD SECURITY CONCERNS

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Environmental concerns and food security are two new issues which the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Youth Ambassadors (CYAs) have identified as growing risks to the Regional youth population, and plan to play a more active role in these areas.

RCC SALUTES FORMER CULTURAL ICON

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The Nineteenth Meeting of the Regional Culture Committee (RCC) took time out Wednesday (23 April 2008) to observe a minute of silence in memory of one its cultural icons, Andy Palacio, who had served as the Deputy Administrator of the National Institute of Culture and History of Belize before his demise on January 19, 2008.
