ST. VINCENT AND THE GRENADINES, GUYANA TOP CARICOM 10K ROAD RACE

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) St Vincent and the Grenadines' Pamenos Ballentyne and Guyana's Alika Morgan have again emerged champions of the Annual Caribbean Community (CARICOM) 10K Road Race held on Sunday (29 June 2008) in Antigua and Barbuda.

Ballentyne, who was making his fourth consecutive win, finished the race in a time of 31.41secs beating Trinidad and Tobago's Richard Jones into second place, while Morgan who was wining the Race for the third time finished ahead of Trinidad and Tobago's Christine Regis with a time of 39:07 secs.

ANTIGUA AND BARBUDA SPORT MINISTER WANTS REGIONAL CONFERENCE ON SPORT

TOURISM HEADS THE BILL AT 29th MEETING OF CARICOM LEADERS

TOURISM HIGH ON CARICOM AGENDA

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Deeper levels of functional cooperation in tourism, re-branding of the Region’s tourism product to reflect its diversity, and Transportation, will be prime areas of focus when Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) meet in a special session devoted to Tourism during the Twenty-Ninth Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government  in Antigua and Barbuda, 1-4 July 2008.

CARICOM DEVELOPMENT FUND SOON TO BE A REALITY

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The CARICOM Development Fund (CDF) is to be launched at the Twenty-Ninth Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) in Antigua and Barbuda 1-4 July 2008.

A decision was taken by the Heads of Government to frontload $60M of the US$250M Fund to coincide with the launch next week.

Jamaican To Receive CARICOM Triennial Award For Women

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) An outstanding Jamaican woman will be awarded the Caribbean Community’s Triennial Award for Women for her sterling contribution to national and regional development especially in the field of education and research.

The award will be conferred on 1 July 2008 at the Opening Ceremony of the Twenty-Ninth Meeting of the Conference of CARICOM Heads of Government, in Antigua and Barbuda.

It is my pleasure to participate in this symposium on education and to share this panel with such distinguished speakers. This discussion could not be timelier. We in CARICOM Community are currently re-examining the scope and effectiveness of our overarching philosophy "education for all". In New York, it is clear that you are grappling with the reality of the principle of "no child left behind" especially its implications for poor black and Latino children, among whom I am sure are some descendants from the Caribbean.
