CARICOM mounting election observation mission for Guyana’s Elections

Members of the CARICOM Election Observation Mission (CEOM) began arriving in Guyana on February 24, to monitor the country’s Regional and General Elections early next month.

The full complement of the 14-Member Mission will be in Guyana on February 27, and will be on the ground until March 4.

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, Feb 19, CMC – Caribbean Community (CARICOM) leaders have agreed to send a fact finding mission to Haiti in a bid to finding a solution to the ongoing social and political unrest in the French-speaking CARICOM member country where opposition parties are demanding the removal of President Jovenel Moise.

CARICOM and United Arab Emirates sign agreement to strengthen cooperation

The Caribbean Community (CARICOM and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the side lines of the 31st Inter-Sessional Meeting of CARICOM Heads of Government in Barbados, Wednesday.

The MOU, signed by CARICOM Secretary-General Ambassador Irwin LaRocque and Assistant Minister in the Government of the UAE Mr Omar Saif Ghobash, will establish a consultation and cooperation mechanism to enhance and strengthen cooperation between the two sides.

Blacklisting comes under microscope at Intersessional

The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) continues to intensify its advocacy against the blacklisting of its Member States by the European Union (EU). The EU has used its tax good governance standard to label some Caribbean countries as non-cooperative tax jurisdictions, despite the fact that the countries in question are not designated as non-compliant by the relevant regulatory authorities, such as the Financial Action Task Force and the OECD Global Forum.
