Two CARICOM Member States to access pan-Caribbean digital payment system

(Caribbean Telecommunications Union Press Release) In six months, Barbados and Jamaica are set to become the first Caribbean territories to access a new pan-Caribbean digital payment settlement system, called CaribDollar (Carib$). Carib$, a stablecoin, is the creation of partners Abed Ventures Inc., out of Barbados, and German entrepreneur, Dr. Jan Schröder.

Invest in agriculture, remove trade barriers, improve transportation – Takeaways From CARICOM Agri Investment Forum Opening

Boosting agriculture production; the need for financial injection in the sector; the removal of trade barriers; and the necessity for reliable, intra-regional transportation came into sharp focus as the CARICOM Agri Investment Forum and Exposition got underway Thursday.

Those matters were the common thread of the remarks of the nine featured speakers at the opening ceremony held at the National Cultural Centre.

Agri Investment Forum

The premier Agri-Food Investment Forum and Expo will be held on May 19 – 21, 2022 at the Arthur Chung Convention Center under the theme: “Investing in Vision 25 by 2025”. The overall goal of this important event is to achieve the 25% by 2025 vision of reducing regional food imports by fostering accelerated and targeted investment in agriculture and food production and its business ecosystem within CARICOM member states.

Special COTED on Agriculture held

Lead Head of Govt with responsibility for agriculture in the CARICOM Quasi Cabinet, H.E. Dr. Irfaan Ali, on Friday 4 February addressed a Special Ministerial Meeting of the Council for Trade and Economic Development (COTED) on Agriculture.

The meeting was held virtually, and was geared at receiving a report from the Special Ministerial Taskforce on Food Production and Food Security and assessing progress towards reducing the regional food import bill by 25 per cent by 2025.
