Mr. Secretary-General, Mr. Chairman, Prime Minister Hinds, Colleague Heads of Government, distinguished delegations, Heads of regional and international organisations, Ladies and Gentlemen.

May I begin by thanking the Government and People of the Republic of Guyana, and you, Mr. President, for the excellent arrangements made for this meeting, and for the kind hospitality shown to the Bahamas delegation here in Guyana.

CARICOM SUB-GROUP TO REVIEW STATUS OF OPERATIONS OF THE CARIBBEAN MEDIA CORPORATION (CMC)

A sub-group of Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Ministers responsible for Information, Communication and Technology (ICT), have agreed to meet in Jamaica in June to review the status of operations of the Barbados-based Caribbean Media Corporation (CMC), which temporarily suspended services in January 2002.

The group's decision to meet in Kingston, the Jamaican capital, was one of the major conclusions of the just completed ICT Meeting held in Antigua and Barbuda from 13 - 15 May 2002.

CARICOM TRADE MINISTERS MEET IN GUYANA

Decisions leading to the continued implementation of the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME) are expected to be made when Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Officials and Ministers of Government responsible for Economic Development meet in Guyana 22-28 May, 2002. The Officials will meet on 22-25 May 2002, while the Ministers will meet on 27-28 May 2002.

INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY MINISTERS TO MEET

Ministers with responsibility for Information and Communication Technology (ICT)in the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) are due to meet in Antigua and Barbuda next Wednesday, 15 May 2002, to look at the regional information and communication technology environment as well as to mobilise coordinated action towards the framing of regional programming and a CARICOM Policy on ICT.
