CARICOM CUSTOMS OFFICERS GEAR FOR VALUATION TRAINING

CARICOM Customs officials will participate in a Customs Valuation Workshop to upgrade their skills in data collection for different valuation methods from 13-17 September, in Antigua and Barbuda.

The Workshop is part of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) Commitment to CARICOM Member States to meet their WTO obligations and is aimed mainly at enhancing the trade positions of CARICOM countries in the global trade arena.

JOINT COMMUNIQUE ISSUED AT THE CONCLUSION OF THE TENTH CARICOM-JAPAN CONSULTATION, 23 AUGUST 2004, GEORGETOWN, GUYANA

The Tenth Caribbean Community (CARICOM)- Japan Consultation was held at the CARICOM Headquarters in Georgetown on August 24, 2004. The delegation of CARICOM was headed by Ms Fay Housty, Director, Foreign Policy and External Economic Relations of the CARICOM Secretariat and that of Japan by Mr. Satoru Sato, Deputy Director-General, Latin America and Caribbean Affairs Bureau, Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

CARICOM OFFICIAL URGES YOUTH AMBASSADORS TO ARTICULATE CARIBBEAN VISION

Twenty-seven young persons representing thirteen Member States and three Associate States of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) as Youth Ambassadors have been encouraged to develop and articulate a shared vision for the Caribbean that focuses on improving the quality of life for all in the Community. The charge was given by Deputy Secretary-General of CARICOM, Ambassador Lolita Applewhaite during an address at an induction ceremony for the CARICOM youth representatives held at the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB) Headquarters St Kitts and Nevis on Tuesday (August 3).

CARICOM SECRETARY-GENERAL RECEIVES NATIONAL HONOUR OF GUYANA

The Secretary-General of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), His Excellency Edwin W. Carrington has been awarded the third highest National Honour of Guyana - the Cacique Crown of Honour (CCH). The Honour was bestowed on Mr. Carrington on Friday (July 23) by the President of Guyana, His Excellency Bharrat Jagdeo during an investiture ceremony at the Office of the President attended by representatives of the Judiciary, Members of the Cabinet of Guyana and staff of the CARICOM Secretariat.

CARICOM SECRETARIAT STAFF PLAN STRATEGIES FOR IMPROVED SERVICE DELIVERY

Members of staff of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat met in a two-day retreat in Georgetown, Guyana on Tuesday and Wednesday (July 20-21) to devise strategies to assist the Organisation to more effectively and efficiently serve the Region and its people. The retreat was part of an organisational change and refocusing exercise, which is being undertaken in several phases at the Georgetown-based Secretariat that serves as the implementation arm of the 15-member Regional Grouping.

Shaneek Amoy Frank, a 12th grade student of William Knibb Memorial High School, Jamaica will be among her country's delegates at the upcoming Eighteenth General Assembly and Technical Conference of the Caribbean Organisation of Tax Administrators (COTA) in The Bahamas from 26-29 July, 2004.
