CARICOM ATTENDS DONOR CONFERENCE ON HAITI

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Deputy Secretary-General of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), Ambassador Lolita Applewhaite and Assistant Secretary-General Foreign and Community Relations, Ambassador Colin Granderson will participate in the International Conference for the Economic and Social Development of Haiti in Madrid, Spain, from 29-30 November 2006.

CARICOM PRIME MINISTERIAL MISSION TO HAITI

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) On Wednesday 18 October, 2006,   Hon. Dr Denzil Douglas, Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, and Chairman of the Conference of Heads of Government of CARICOM,   will lead a Prime Ministerial mission on a one-day visit to Haiti, in fulfillment of a decision made by the Heads of Government at their Twenty-Seventh Regular Meeting in St Kitts in July 2006.

WORLD BANK AND GEF SIGN US$2.1 MILLION GRANT TO PROTECT COASTAL AREAS IN THE CARIBBEAN

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) — The Caribbean Community Climate Change Centre (CCCCC) has been granted $2.1 million US from the World Bank through the Global Environment Facility (GEF) to support a pilot adaptation program in three Caribbean Small Island States (Dominica, Saint Lucia and St. Vincent and the Grenadines).

All set for Launch of CARIFESTA Month in Trinidad and Tobago

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) All is set for the launch of Caribbean Festival of Arts, CARIFESTA Month on 1 September 2006 in thirteen administrative districts of Trinidad and two administrative districts in Tobago. This exciting national initiative will capture 54 villages in a series of national celebrations leading towards the official opening of CARIFESTA IX on 22 September 2006.

CDB, Petroleum Fund Assistance for Haiti’s Recovery

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)The Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) will contribute US$17 million towards Haiti’s social and economic recovery in keeping with the Caribbean Community’s (CARICOM) commitment to assisting that Member State in its reconstruction process.

CSME TRAINING WORKSHOP USEFUL, SAY CYAs

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) "The Way Forward" presented by Yvonne Holder, Technical Coordinator of the Technical Action Services Unit at the CARICOM Secretariat ended the three-day Sustainable Livelihoods for CARICOM Youth Workshop held in Saint Lucia from 8-10 July.

CARICOM YOUTH AMBASSADORS PARTICIPATE IN REGIONAL PANEL DISCUSSION

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) At least two CARICOM Youth Ambassadors (CYAs) have ensured that the voices of youth resounded on the issue of Sexual Health and Reproduction, through their participation in a panel discussion held Tuesday 11 July in Saint Lucia, in observance of World Population Day.

The exercise was staged by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), and involved more than 30 CYAs, as well as local and regional officials. It was moderated by Dominica’s CARICOM Youth Ambassador, Fenella Wenham.
