A spectacular display of talent unfolds at the CARICOM Secretariat

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkey, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)     Monday 26 November continued the unveiling of the prodigious array skills and talents that reside within the walls of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat Headquarters in Georgetown, Georgetown.
The occasion was the opening of the CARICOM Staff Talent Celebration 2012; an activity which has formed a main part of the Secretariat’s calendar. This year, it is both poignant and symbolic, marking a decade-old event and dedicated to CARICOM Deputy Secretary-General Ambassador Lolita Applewhaite.

CARICOM Youth dub social media interaction a resounding success

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)     More than 9, 000 young people logged on to new media platforms on Thursday afternoon, to participate in a two hour social media interaction with the CARICOM Secretary-General, Ambassador Irwin LaRocque.

Dubbed Live with SG and hosted by the CARICOM Youth Ambassadors, the live social media interaction facilitated by Dominican based COMESEE TV in partnership with the CARICOM Secretariat was hailed a resounding success by young people - and adults too - across the Region.

CARICOM Secretariat tackling youth crime and violence … But resources are slow in coming

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat has facilitated yet another successful national consultation on youth crime and violence.
The two-day consultation which was funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in partnership with The Bahamas Ministries of National Security and Youth Sports and Culture, opened on Tuesday in Nassau, The Bahamas under the theme: Partnering for crime prevention and social development.

CARICOM LAUNCHES CONSUMER PROTECTION SERVICE

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) has launched an online system which allows consumers in 14 Member States to alert authorities on dangerous products which they detect in the market.

It is called the CARICOM Rapid Exchange System for Dangerous non-food Consumer Goods, (CARREX) and was developed in response to concerns voiced by consumer bodies of the need to strengthen the Region’s market surveillance for unsafe consumer goods.

Fellow Citizens and Residents of Antigua and Barbuda:
The use of energy in its various forms is essential to all forms of economic and social development and this year’s celebration of CARICOM Energy Week provides us with an opportunity to reflect on the uses of energy in Antigua and Barbuda and to develop strategies for promoting its efficient and sustainable use. The theme adopted for this week’s activities is “Changing Energy Habits today for Antigua and Barbuda’s tomorrow”. This is derived from the overall CARICOM theme which is “Sustainable Energy Powering a Green Economy”.
