Jamaica is receiving new funding from the Inter-American Development Bank to improve the country’s resilience to climate change.
The funding includes a $10 million “highly” concessionary loan and a $7,895,000 grant approved by the Inter-American Development Bank.
The project is the first adaptation programme implemented by the IDB under its “Pilot Programme for Climate Resilience of the Climate Investment Funds.”
San Juan, (EFE).- The Caribbean Public Health Agency, or CARPHA, published a Plan of Action for Promoting Healthy Weights: 2014 - 2019, part of a push to reduce obesity among children and adolescents by 2025.
CARPHA has an integrated strategy to address nutrition-related diseases in Caribbean countries, where the proportion of overweight or obese people is in the range of 28 percent to 35 percent.

In a major shift, Jamaica has announced that the country’s Cabinet has approved a proposal that would decriminalize the possession of small amounts of marijuana.
The proposed amendment to the country’s Dangerous Drugs Act ((which has been approved by Cabinet but still needs to go be introduced and approved by Parliament)) would mean that the possession of small quantities of marijuana for personal use would be a ticketable infraction and not a criminal offence.

Jamaica’s government is currently in the midst of finalizing a $50 million “growth and competitiveness” project with the World Bank, according to Industry, Investment and Commerce Minister Anthony Hylton.
The loan project, which will take place over a four-year period, will be executed in its first part by the Jamaica Promotions Corporation through the National Competitiveness Council.
