It is a distinct honour and pleasure for me to celebrate International Women’s Day with our women and girls across the Community. The Day affords us the opportunity to reflect on gender equality and the advancement of women as important components of this year’s United Nation’s theme: “I Am Generation Equality: Realizing Women’s Rights”.

Statement By CARICOM Chair Ref Guyana Elections

The Caribbean Community calls on the electoral officials in Guyana and the representative political parties to work together to achieve a peaceful and lawful completion of the electoral process in Guyana by ensuring the tabulation of the results in all Regions using the Statement of Polls in a transparent manner in the presence of the representatives of the political parties and the electoral observers.

CARICOM Election Observers satisfied Guyana’s elections were free and fair

The CARICOM Election Observation Mission to Regional and General Elections in Guyana on March 2 is satisfied that the conduct of the Poll was “free, fair and transparent.”

Chief of Mission, Ms Cynthia Combie Martyr said the people of Guyana “should be proud of themselves,” and the Mission salutes the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) and the citizens of the country “for the peaceful conduct of the Poll.”

Action Committee on Food and Nutrition Security holds inception meeting

The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) has established an Action Committee on Food and Nutrition Security which held its first meeting on Tuesday, 3 March, via video conference that was anchored at the CARICOM Secretariat.

The CARICOM Action Committee on Food and Nutrition Security (CACFNS) will share best practices and resources through effective interaction, communication, enhanced synergies and capacity-building in Member States.

CARICOM Chair To Host Meeting On COVID-19

Chairman of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley, will host a special meeting in Barbados tomorrow, Sunday, March 1, to discuss ways of protecting the region from COVID-19.

The meeting will take place in the Frangipani room at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre, beginning at 12 noon.

CARICOM Development Fund To Be Restructured

(Barbados Government Information Service) So serious are the issues facing the region that its leaders have decided to restructure the CARICOM Development Fund to enable it to raise additional monies from individuals, companies, institutions, regional countries and extra regional countries.
