It is an honor to address you today at this CARICOM 4th High-Level Advocacy Forum on Statistics. This forum represents an invaluable opportunity to reflect upon and advance our shared commitment to robust, inclusive, and transparent data systems that propel sustainable development across the Caribbean region.
On behalf of the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), it is my pleasure and honor to participate in the opening of the Fourth High-Level Advocacy Forum on Statistics. This gathering presents a valuable opportunity to strengthen our ties and foster a sustained exchange of expertise, ideas, and best practices with the countries of the Caribbean.
Distinguished delegates, it is my honour to give remarks on behalf of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat at this important gathering of Statistics professionals. I take note of your theme 'Strengthening Statistics through the Regional Strategy for the Development of Statistics for a Resilient Caribbean Community (CARICOM)' and congratulate you on yet another year of dedicated service to the Community.

Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Ministers of Environment on Wednesday, 30 October, held bilateral talks with Mr. Carlos Manuel Rodríguez, Chief Executive Officer and Chairperson of the Global Environment Facility (GEF).
The discussions were held on the margins of the 16th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity (COP16) in Cali, Colombia.
The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat will convene the Fourth High-Level Advocacy Forum on Statistics in Placencia, Belize, on 4 November 2024. The theme of the Forum is ‘Strengthening Statistics through the Regional Strategy for the Development of Statistics for a Resilient Caribbean Community’.

The Government of Belize, in partnership with the Statistical Institute of Belize, the CARICOM Secretariat, the United Nations Population Fund, the European Union, and the Commonwealth Secretariat, will host the 2024 CARICOM Statistics Meetings in Placencia, Belize. The Meetings began on 31 October and will conclude on 8 November 2024.
"In 2016, Belize faced a $20 million annual shortfall in biodiversity management. With today’s more ambitious goals, resource needs are even greater. Yet, accessing cooperation and finance remains challenging, hindering fast-tracked implementation of national biodiversity strategies.
