Eight Caribbean countries to strengthen HIV programmes - UNAIDS

PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad, Tuesday February 25, 2014, CMC – UNAIDS Caribbean said Monday that eight regional countries have finalised specific strategies aimed at strengthening their HIV programmes by making them more responsive to human rights.

It said that the representatives from Barbados, the Dominican Republic, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, St. Lucia, Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago met her last week for a three-day workshop hosted by the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) and supported by the Ford Foundation.

PANCAP highlights reduction in new HIV/AIDS infections in the Caribbean

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)     There has been a reduction in the number of new HIV infections annually in the Caribbean. This was among some of the gains in managing HIV/AIDS highlighted by the Pan Caribbean Partnership Against HIV AIDS (PANCAP) meeting of National AIDS Programme Managers, Senior Health Officials and HIV and AIDS Regional partners held in Port-Spain, Trinidad and Tobago from 21-23 October 2013.

SPECIAL ENVOY FOR HIV AND AIDS PLEADS FOR THE REMOVAL OF DISCRIMINATORY LAWS

PANCAP PARTNERS MEET TO STRENGTHEN CARIBBEAN AIDS RESPONSE

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)      Consensus on priority programmes and needs, and increased national leadership to sustain the regional AIDS response are among the expected outcomes of a meeting of national AIDS programme managers, donors and regional partners on October 21-23, 2013, at the Hyatt Regency Trinidad, in Port of Spain.

PANCAP Justice for All Programme is on the way

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The Pan Caribbean Partnership against HIV and AIDS (PANCAP) continues to marshal its forces to “beat back” the stigma and discrimination associated with HIV and AIDS with the launch of its Justice for All Programme. The programme aims to build on initiatives to create a supportive environment for eliminating stigma and discrimination and for building consensus around the principles of human rights.

PANCAP APPOINTS NEW DIRECTOR

SURINAMESE YOUTH PROGRAMME A REGIONAL BEST PRACTICE

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Secretary-General of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Ambassador Irwin LaRocque deemed the Surinamese Youth programmes as a regional Best Practice.

On the second day of his official visit to Suriname, the Secretary-General was brought up to date on the activities and plans of Surinamese youth and was particularly impressed by the exciting programmes outlined to him by the CARICOM Youth Ambassadors (CYA) at a meeting in Paramaribo on Tuesday 13 December.
