A Regional Workshop aimed at building capacity in the Caribbean Forum of African Caribbean and Pacific States (CARIFORUM), began this morning at the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat in Georgetown, Guyana.
The Regional Workshop on the Single Administrative Document (SAD) and Customs Valuation brings together stakeholders from CARIFORUM States’ Customs Administrations.
The critical importance of Drug Observatories (DOs) was underscored at the Opening of the Regional Seminar for Drug Observatories in the Caribbean on 4 April 2018, in Georgetown, Guyana. The importance of international cooperation and synergies in the fight against illicit drugs was emphasized also to the gathering mainly of Caribbean Community (CARICOM) practitioners, policy makers and researchers in the field.
The importance of drug observatories in the fight against the illegal drug situation was reiterated throughout the Opening Ceremony of the Regional Seminar for National Drug Observatories in the Caribbean on 4 April, 2018, at the Ramada Princess Hotel, in Georgetown, Guyana.
The successor to Cotonou Partnership Agreement between the African Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) States and the European Union must take into account the inherent and exogenous vulnerabilities of the Caribbean Forum of the ACP States (CARIFORUM) as critical elements in the negotiations.
A Statement of the CARIFORUM Council of Ministers said that successor agreement also had to the take into account the development priorities of the ACP, including CARIFORUM’s priorities, and must aim at sustainable, inclusive and resilient development of the ACP regions.
"Biodiversity in the Caribbean Sea is at serious risk, scientists are warning, with illegal fishing reducing fish stocks and placing the marine environment under increasing strain."
MINISTER of Social Protection, Amna Ally told a United Nations forum on Monday that despite the challenges affecting the region, CARICOM continues to progress in achieving regional and international goals for the empowerment and advancement of women and girls.
"By year end, the CARICOM Secretariat will be hard at work getting the framework in place for the new strategic plan for the Caribbean Community."
PRELIMINARY STATEMENT OF OBSERVATIONS AND FINDINGS
News reports out of Grenada are that Dr. the Hon. Keith Mitchell and his New National Party (NNP) won a landslide victory at elections held today.
Caribbean News Service is reporting that the NNP won all 15 seats. According to the news outfit, Dr. Mitchell said on radio that it was a “humbling experience and feeling.”
CANA News Online said it was the third time that Dr Mitchell had achieved the feat of sweeping the seats.
The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Election Observer Mission (CEOM) has conducted initial assessments and has met with key stakeholders as the March 13 General Elections in Grenada draws near.
