Equal and equitable gender participation under CSME should be ensured – Secretary General LaRocque

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)     The ability of men and women to participate equally and equitably in all aspects of life under the CSME must be ensured. Those were sentiments expressed by Secretary General of the Caribbean Community Ambassador Irwin LaRocque on Wednesday as he addressed the opening ceremony for the Twenty-Sixth Meeting of the Council for Human and Social Development (COHSOD) which is being held at the CARICOM Headquarters in Georgetown, Guyana.

Labor and gender take center stage at Twenty-Sixth COHSOD

CARICOM strengthens efforts to advance gender equality and women’s empowerment

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The Caribbean Community is strengthening its efforts to advance gender equality and women’s empowerment through the Sixth Meeting of Directors/Coordinators of Women’s/Gender Bureau being convened 6-7 May in Bridgetown, Barbados. The meeting is being held in partnership with the UN Women Multi-country Office (MCO) for the Caribbean, and the Caribbean Development Bank.

CARICOM Triennial Award for Women selection process begins

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)     The selection process for the eleventh CARICOM Triennial Award for Women 2014 got underway in Bridgetown, Barbados on Monday.  The Selection Committee comprised representatives from Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, Haiti, Jamaica and Montserrat. This year there were eight nominees from five Member States.

Inspiring change

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, Advocate - TOMORROW is International Women’s Day 2014 and several states around the world will be celebrating the achievements of women on the social, political and economic fronts in particular, while still shining a spotlight on areas for further improvement as we move towards the goal of attaining equality for women. Each year, the United Nations designates the theme for International Women’s Day, and this year the theme is “Inspiring Change”. When one thinks of those who inspire change towards women’s equality, several role models come to mind.
