CARICOM Chair receives enthusiastic welcome to Secretariat during Tourism, Trade and Investment Mission to Guyana

CARICOM Chair and Prime Minister of Grenada, Hon. Dickon Mitchell, was warmly welcomed to the CARICOM Secretariat today, Thursday, 29 August, by Dr Carla Barnett and members of staff. Prime Minister Mitchell is leading the delegation of the Tourism, Trade and Investment Mission to Guyana from 27-30 August 2024. This four-day event aims to improve trade relations between the two CARICOM countries.

CARICOM Secretary-General commends Trinidad and Tobago’s contribution in the international arena as well as its climate change advocacy

In a message to celebrate Trinidad and Tobago’s sixty-second anniversary of independence on 31 August, CARICOM Secretary-General Dr Carla Barnett lauds the country’s contribution in the international arena as well as its consistent efforts to ensure that climate change remains at the forefront of the global agenda. Trinidad and Tobago’s work on the strengthening of the multilateral system including comprehensive reform of the United Nations Security Council, also received recognition.

Statement by the Chair of the Caribbean Community, Honourable Dickon Mitchell, Prime Minister of Grenada on increasing vigilance following the Mpox outbreak

The recent declaration by the World Health Organization (WHO) regarding the outbreak of mpox, specifically the more transmissible clade 1b, emphasises the importance of heightened vigilance within the Caribbean Community (CARICOM). As of 14 August 2024, this outbreak has been classified as a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC), which necessitates a unified and proactive approach.

STATEMENT BY THE EMINENT PERSONS GROUP - Following the visit to Haiti, 11-16 August 2024

In response to an invitation from the President of the Transitional Presidential Council (TPC) and calls from stakeholders, the CARICOM Eminent Persons Group (EPG) made an in-person visit to Haiti on 11-16 August 2024 as a follow-up to previous virtual meetings with the Presidential Council, the Prime Minister and the nominating sector leaders. The EPG felt it was necessary to ascertain and evaluate the progress accomplished in the transition process to be in a position to report to the Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM).
