Impressive but challenging year for regional tourism

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados (CMC) — Secretary General of the Caribbean Tourism Organisation (CTO), Hugh Riley, says 2016 has been an impressive but also challenging year for tourism in the region.

In his Christmas message, Riley pointed to an increase in tourist arrivals when compared to 2015 that was a record year.

He said the tourist arrivals have been fuelled by strong performances in Europe — mainly the United Kingdom and Germany —and from the United States.

The Bahamas elected Chair of Caribbean Tourism Organisation

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados  (15 September, 2016) – The Bahamas is now Chair of the Caribbean Tourism Organisation (CTO), with the election of its Minister of Tourism Obie Wilchcombe.

The election took place on 15 September in Barbados at the organisation’s annual general meeting during the CTO’s State of the Tourism Industry Conference (SOTIC).

CTO launches Travel Trends Report 2015 at World Travel Market

LONDON, UK – The Caribbean Tourism Organiation (CTO) today launched its UK and European Travel Industry Trends & Insight Report 2015, produced in conjunction with the travel trade publication, TTG.

For the second year running, the CTO has produced this report to give members and wider travel industry partners a unique insight into the key issues affecting the industry and a snapshot on developments within the Caribbean itself.

Caribbean tourist arrivals outpacing other major regions

The Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) is forecasting a five to six per cent growth in tourist arrivals for the region in 2015.

The news comes as the region outpaces all other major regions globally, with record numbers for the first six months of 2015.

CTO Secretary General calls for action to facilitate travel to and through the Caribbean

Secretary General of the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) Hugh Riley has urged regional authorities to institute an Open Skies policy and wherever possible to eliminate secondary screening at Caribbean airports.

Mr. Riley argues that while an Open Skies policy would allow regional carriers to take unlimited flights to all Caribbean Community (CARICOM) member states and encourage the growth of competition among carriers, while elimination of secondary screening would encourage greater demand for intra-regional travel.
