Emil Lee, president of the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association (CHTA), reported progress during his first year in office as CHTA continues its evolution into a Hub and Spoke organization. He said he is pleased that the focus on strengthening the National Hotel and Tourism Associations (NHTAs) throughout the region is evolving quickly. He also cites a new era of public-private sector collaboration between CHTA and the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) which has emerged as a point of optimism for the industry's future.

Region’s premier tourism conference to focus on growth through innovation

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados – A theme has been announced for the Caribbean Tourism Organisation (CTO)’s State of the Industry Conference (SOTIC) in Curaçao from 21-23 October. Record tourist arrival and earnings for Caribbean – CTO

 More than 26 million visitors and over US$29 billion in earnings in 2014 ~

The Caribbean welcomed a record 26.3 million tourists in 2014, a 5.3 per cent rise over the previous year. These visitors spent  US$29.2 billion, itself a record.

The Chairman of the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO), Richard Sealy, and the secretary general, Hugh Riley, along with the CTO’s director of research, Winfield Griffith, announced the record performance at a news conference streamed live to a global audience from the CTO headquarters today.

Tourism Minister Asot Michael secures CTO debt reduction at   Caribbean Tourism Organisation Ministerial Meeting in San Juan

Cuba an integral part of CTO’s diversity

This week’s announcement of a change in diplomatic relations between Cuba and the United States is a welcome opportunity to increase tourist arrivals to the Caribbean. With the US already being the region’s largest source market, producing nearly half of our tourism business, this new development could enhance those numbers. Last year we welcomed over 12 million Americans to our shores. An opportunity to substantially increase that number will be welcomed.
