PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad -- The CARICOM Implementation Agency for Crime and Security convened the 18th joint meeting of the standing committees of commissioners of police and military chiefs (CPMC) on Friday 2 May 2014 in Port of Spain, Trinidad. This executive level forum of CARICOM commissioners of police and military chiefs forms a critical part of the regional security architecture; where all the regional operational heads meet jointly to review current and evolving security threats and advance security initiatives to reduce crime and promote security in the region.

CARACAS, (Reuters) – A Venezuelan soldier and a motorcyclist died in a confused melee sparked by the opposition’s barricading of a Caracas street, officials said yesterday, boosting the death toll from nearly a month of violence to 20. Demonstrators have for weeks staged rallies and set up barricades to demand the resignation of President Nicolas Maduro, leading to clashes with security forces and government supporters.

CASTRIES, Saint. Lucia, CMC-Saint Lucia has registered a statistical improvement in the fight against crime in 2013. The statistics revealed a decrease in the number of homicide, burglaries, stealing and sexual offences, however there was an in reports of firearm offences, illegal drug offences and aggravated burglary. There were 36 homicides in 2013, down from 44 in 2012 which included several Police killings. The 2013 figure minus the state slayings is the lowest in seven years. A total of 19, 038 reports of crime were accepted by the police in 2013.

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Twenty Trinidadian youngsters learned how animation principles can be used to create animated stories about their life and how they perceive their future.
Squash and stretch, anticipation and staging were among twelve basic principles of animation explained to the young participants at the Youth Training Centre (YTC) in Trinidad and Tobago during a one-day workshop on Friday 25 October, staged under the CARICOM Programme on Crime and Violence Prevention.

The two-day consultation which was funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in partnership with The Bahamas Ministries of National Security and Youth Sports and Culture, opened on Tuesday in Nassau, The Bahamas under the theme: Partnering for crime prevention and social development.
