RNM DG: ‘COTED Strategy Session Timely’

CHRIST CHURCH, BARBADOS – Hon. Said Musa, Prime Minister of Belize, opened the Sixteenth Meeting of COTED in Belize City, Belize, today. Officials met from March 1 to 2, prior to the Ministerial level meeting of COTED which is scheduled to come to a close March 5. A special COTED Strategy Session was held March 3. It dealt exclusively with external trade negotiations/issues. Prime Minister Musa described the strategic session as “successful”.

Caribbean Well Prepared for Cancún

CHRIST CHURCH, BARBADOS – “The Caribbean is well prepared heading into Cancún”. The Director-General of the Caribbean Regional Negotiating Machinery (RNM), Ambassador Dr. Richard Bernal, made these remarks at the close of the Second Special Meeting of the CARICOM Council for Trade and Economic Development (COTED) on External Economic Negotiations, September 4. The Special COTED was convened in Georgetown, Guyana, September 3 to 4. It was chaired by Hon. Billie Miller, Senior Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Barbados.

CARICOM TRADE AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT FOR COTED DELIBERATIONS

Issues pertaining to the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) trade and economic agenda will be the focus of two days of deliberations at the Fifteenth Meeting of the Council for Trade and Economic Development (COTED) which opens in Georgetown, Guyana, tomorrow, 29 May 2003.

COTED is responsible for the promotion of trade and economic development of the Community.

COTED MINISTERS URGED TO KEEP FAITH WITH THEIR DECISIONS

The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) opened its first Ministerial Meeting for 2003 in Georgetown today, a signal development in the Region’s efforts in shaping new strategies for international negotiations.

At the Opening Ceremony of the Fourteenth Meeting of the Council for Trade and Economic Development (COTED), Secretary-General of CARICOM, Mr. Edwin Carrington urged the Ministers to use the word “Action” as a guide for their deliberations.Their decisions he said will set the tone for this historic year with its focus on “productivity and decisiveness

FIRST ROUND OF CARICOM DELIBERATIONS FOR THE YEAR - COTED IN THE LEAD

The first major round of deliberations by the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) organs will kick-off in Georgetown, Guyana later this week with the Fourteenth Meeting of the Council for Trade and Economic Development (COTED), 31 January-1February 2003. The focus will be on regional trade and economic development. Issues pertaining to Energy are expected to feature prominently with attention being paid to the Caribbean Renewable Energy Development Programme (CREDP).  

CARICOM TRADE MINISTERS MEET IN GUYANA

Decisions leading to the continued implementation of the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME) are expected to be made when Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Officials and Ministers of Government responsible for Economic Development meet in Guyana 22-28 May, 2002. The Officials will meet on 22-25 May 2002, while the Ministers will meet on 27-28 May 2002.
