CARICOM MINISTERS INTENSIFY SINGLE MARKET TALKS

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)  A packed agenda including the continued implementation of the CARICOM Single Market (CSM), the inevitable repositioning of the Region's traditional agriculture industries, and disaster mitigation, are among the major issues up for discussion by the Caribbean Community's Council for Trade and Economic Development (COTED).

COTED CONTINUES THE MARCH TO CSME

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Just days after the signalling of the launch of the CARICOM Single Market by the Chairman of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), the Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, Hon. Patrick Manning, CARICOM’s Council for Trade and Economic Development (COTED) will meet in Georgetown, Guyana to continue discussions on the full implementation of the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME).

Good afternoon. It is a pleasure in these brief Opening Remarks to welcome you all to this Nineteenth Meeting of the Council for Trade and Economic Development (COTED). I hope that your journey here was comfortable and without undue stress or harassment.

CSME, AGRICULTURE IN FOCUS AT CARICOM MEETING

(CARICOM Secretariat, Georgetown, Guyana) Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Ministers with responsibility for economic development issues will meet under the umbrella of CARICOM’s Council for Trade and Economic Development (COTED) in Guyana, 11-12 May 2005. The Ministers will be guided in their deliberations by discussions and recommendations from their officials who are scheduled to meet on 9-10 May 2005, also in Guyana.

CARICOM TRADE AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT MINISTERS ADVANCE WORK ON CARICOM SINGLE MARKET IMPLEMENTATION : PRESS STATEMENT ISSUED AT THE CONCLUSION OF THE EIGHTEENTH MEETING OF THE COUNCIL FOR TRADE AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT (COTED), 7 JANUARY 2005, GEORGETOWN, GUYANA

Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Ministers of Trade participated in the Eighteenth Meeting of the Council For Trade and Economic Development (COTED), at the Le Meridian Pegasus hotel, Georgetown, Guyana 4-7 January 2005, under the chairmanship of Hon. Michael Jong Tjein Fa, Minister of Trade and Industry of Suriname.

The meeting focused on a range of issues relating to the establishment of the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME) and took a number of decisions aimed at promoting the competitiveness of the Community in a liberalised global trade environment.
