Governor Duncan Taylor signed the necessary proclamation ahead of Nomination day Wednesday.
At least 40 candidates are expected to contest the elections, but Political observers say the election will be a straight fight between the ruling United Democratic Party (UDP) and the People’s Progressive Movement (PPM).

GEORGETOWN, Cayman Islands, CMC – Former premier William McKeeva Bush has been formally charged with two counts of misconduct after he was arrested late last year.
Bush, 57, who will appear in court next month, is also facing four counts of Breach of Trust by a member of the Legislative Assembly, contrary to Section13 of the Anti-Corruption Law 2008, and five counts of theft, contrary to Section .241 of the Penal Code 2007 Revision.
Bush will appear in Grand Court on April 12. The charges were laid on Wednesday as the former premier answered his bail.

GRAND CAYMAN, Cayman Islands, CMC – The regional governments owned Caribbean Catastrophe Risk Insurance Facility (CCRIF) says it has appointed St. Lucian Isaac Anthony as its first full time chief executive officer.
Anthony, a former senior public servant, has served on the boards of key regional financial institutions, including the Barbados-based Caribbean Development Bank (CDB). He took up his new appointment from January 1.
In another bizarre twist to the seemingly never-ending political intrigue that has enveloped the Cayman Islands in recent weeks, it seems that Premier Juliana O’Connor-Connolly did not resign with the rest of her government colleagues from the United Democratic Party last weekend. Attempts to determine Ms O’Connor-Connolly’s official status within the UDP were unsuccessful by press time. The premier did not respond to repeated requests for comment about the matter throughout the week.
The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) formally welcomes the Cayman Islands as an Associate Member of the Community. They now join Turks and Caicos, The British Virgin Islands and Anguilla as Associate Members.
