Message of Condolence from Secretary-General, Caribbean Community, Ambassador Irwin LaRocque,  on passing of former President of Turkey His Excellency Suleyman Demirel

It is with profound sympathy that I extend, on behalf of the Caribbean Community, condolences to the Government and People of Turkey on the passing of His Excellency Suleyman Demirel, former President of Turkey.

The late President Demirel, who had served several times as Turkey’s Prime Minister and also as President, had dominated his nation’s politics during a period of social, economic and political challenges.  President Demirel will be remembered as one of Turkey’s most remarkable politicians. A powerful orator, renowned for his wide-ranging knowledge of Turkey, he will also be remembered for his patriotism and leadership, thanks to which, Turkey’s industrialisation and development experienced significant progress.

I once again convey my deepest condolences to the Government and people of Turkey and to their family and loved ones of former President Suleyman Demirel at this time of mourning.
