CARICOM, CITES Secretariats raise awareness, build capacity on wildlife conservation in Dominica and Grenada

Dominica and Grenada are now better equipped to manage and protect trade in wildlife following workshops the CARICOM Secretariat organised recently to ensure compliance with multilateral environmental agreements.

The workshops provided technical support to develop national, legal framework and institutional guidelines to implement the Convention on International Trade in Endangered species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) to which all CARICOM Member States are signatories.

CARICOM HEALTH MINISTERS ENDORSE CARIBBEAN MOVES INITIATIVE

In a powerful display of unity and commitment, CARICOM Ministers of Health collectively endorsed the proposed “Caribbean Moves” (CM) framework and implementation plan. They also expressed their support for including the initiative under the current standard Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) agenda item for subsequent Council for Human and Social Development (COHSOD) Health meetings.

The CITES of Wild Fauna and Flora programme aims to safeguard endangered animals and plants from harmful international trade, thus ensuring their survival.

Agreements on transitional governance in place following talks on Haiti in Jamaica
