BRIDGETOWN, Barbados - PRIME MINISTER FREUNDEL STUART has been able to achieve levels of support on par with former Prime Minister Owen Arthur. This is the view of the Democratic Labour (DLP) which, in a statement from its general secretary George Pilgrim yesterday, said Stuart had shown in two years an ability to muster as much support as Arthur, who led the country for 14 years.
BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, CMC - Barbadian voters kept with tradition and provided the incumbent party with a second consecutive term in power following a nerve jangling general elections here on Thursday. According to the preliminary results, the Democratic Labour Party (DLP) won 16 of the 30 seats in the elections with the remainder going to the main opposition Barbados Labour Party (BLP). In the 2008 general election, the DLP won 20 seats.

No government since the island attained its political independence from Britain in 1966 has failed to obtain a second consecutive term, but the opinion polls suggest that the DLP is in danger of becoming the first party that would fail to achieve to maintain the feat.

But Prime Minister Freundel Stuart is telling voters that his ruling Democratic Labour Party (DLP) ,which won the 2008 general election by an 20-10 margin, is still the best party to take the country forward. “In the final analysis, the assignment in this election is coming down to a government that once again can be trusted,” he said in a television broadcast on Tuesday night.
(Trinidad Guardian) - Local farmers may soon be getting more opportunities to export produce to the region, Food Production Minister Devant Maharaj said yesterday when he oversaw the export of 1000 kilos of paw paw to Barbados. Maharaj and a team from the National Agricultural Marketing and Development Corporation (Namdevco) arrived at the Servis terminal at Piarco shortly before 6 am for the loading of paw paw grown by Wallerfield farmer Nita Hinds. Maharaj said he was glad to see T&T’s farmers enter the Barbadian market after almost a decade.

Grenadian voters had trekked to polling stations aware that, according to forecasts by credible pollsters, the incumbent National Democratic Congress (NDC) of Prime Minister Tillman Thomas was facing defeat by former prime minister Keith Mitchell's New National Party (NNP).
BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, CMC – Opposition Leader Owen Arthur wants his detractors to look at the policies of his Barbados Labour Party (BLP) ahead of Thursday’s general election rather than focus their attention on his health.
Arthur, who turns 64 on October 17, is seeking to regain the government that he lost when the BLP was trounced 2010 by the Democratic Labour Party (DLP).
Now as he campaigns for that poll, he is wishing that people would stop making his health an issue.
