PM Douglas defends PANCAP’s Justice For All programme

ST. JOHN’S, ANTIGUA, JULY 3RD 2014 (CUOPM) – St. Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister the Right Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas has defended the “Justice for All” programme of the Pan Caribbean Partnership Against HIV/AIDS (PANCAP), saying it was not designed to encourage a re-order of the Caribbean society in a negative way.

Antigua and Barbuda Elects a New Government: Gaston Browne is Prime Minister Elect

ST. JOHN’S, Antigua – 13th June, 2014………”To God be the Glory. Today is the dawn of a new day,” were the words echoed by Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party Leader the Hon. Gaston A. Browne as he delivered his first address as Prime Minister Elect of Antigua and Barbuda.

The Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party on Thursday 13th June overwhelmingly defeated the United Progressive Party of Former Prime Minister W. Baldwin Spencer. The Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party won 14 seats and 3 seats went to the United Progressive Party.

CARICOM to Observe Antigua/Barbuda Elections

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)     CARICOM will observe the Antigua/Barbuda general elections, to be held Thursday, June 12, 2014.
The Caribbean Community has mounted an eleven member Electoral Observer Mission, led by Jamaica’s Director of Elections, Mr. Orrette Fisher. The team, with nine officials drawn from CARICOM Member States and two from the CARICOM Secretariat, began arriving in Antigua/Barbuda on Friday 6 June.

National Consultations on Reducing Youth on Youth Violence in CARICOM Member States kick off in Antigua and Barbuda

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)     A series of National Consultations on Reducing Youth on Youth Violence in CARICOM Member States kicked off in Antigua and Barbuda on Monday. The consultation began with an opening ceremony at the Multipurpose Center in St. John’s, following which training and data collection started at the Ottos Comprehensive School and surrounding community.

ANTIGUA-ELECTIONS-Ruling party official urges patience as country awaits crucial court ruling

ST. JOHN’S, Antigua, CMC – Chairman of the ruling United Progressive Party (UPP), Leon Chacku” Symister said Monday he believes the OECS Court of Appeal is doing everything possible to give an early ruling in case that could have a bearing on the Antigua and Barbuda general elections.


Prime Minister Baldwin Spencer has said in the past that he cannot name the date for the general election because of the two outstanding court matters that had been filed by the main opposition Antigua Labour Party (ALP) leader, Gaston Browne.

ANTIGUA-POLITICS-Political parties at odds over date of general election

ST. JOHN’S, Antigua, CMC – The ruling United Progressive Party (UPP) and the main opposition Antigua Labour Party (ALP) continue to trade barbs over the date for a general election in Antigua and Barbuda.


UPP chairman Leon “Chacku” Symister, insists that the government is legitimate and has brushed aside remarks by the ALP that Prime Minister Baldwin Spencer must name the date for the polls given that it is more than five years since the last general election was held here.

ANTIGUA-HOUSING-Government unveils new housing project

ST. JOHN’S, Antigua, CMC – The ruling United Progressive Party (UPP) says more than 1,000 nationals will be employed at a factory that will begin constructing homes on the island.


"The construction of the Baupanel factory also forms one component of the UPP’s strategy for job creation and economic diversification. The benefit to the local economy of the new factory is estimated at EC$200 million (one EC dollar = US$0.37 cents), and when complete the factory will employ well over 1000 Antiguans and Barbudans,” said UPP Spokesperson, Malaka Parker."

ANTIGUA-POLITICS-Political parties continue public debate on date for general election

ST. JOHN’S, Antigua, CMC – Prime Minister Baldwin Spencer says he has no problem with supporters of the main opposition Antigua Labour Party (ALP) picketing his office on Friday maintaining that he would not be pressured into naming the date for the general election.
Addressing supporters of the ruling United Progressive Party (UPP) on Thursday night, Spncer, who is seeking a third consecutive term in office, again reiterated that the announcement for the date for the polls is being held up by two court matters initiated by the ALP and for which ruling are being awaited.
