Work advances on CARICOM Industrial Policy

Consultations with key stakeholders have begun across the Region to finalise the CARICOM Industrial Policy and Strategy in time for approval by Ministers of Trade later this year.

Suriname, which holds responsibility for the Industrial Policy in the CARICOM Quasi Cabinet, is spearheading work towards its completion to present it to a Special Meeting of the Council for Trade and Economic Development (COTED) in October 2025. The work to be carried out in time for that meeting includes deeper engagements with key stakeholders in the business community.

CWA 2025 launches 15 July

The 19th edition of the Caribbean Week of Agriculture (CWA) will be launched on Tuesday, 15 July 2025, setting the stage for the event which will be held in St. Kitts and Nevis from 29 September – 3 October. CWA 2025 will be held under the theme Sowing Change, Harvesting Resilience: Transforming Our Caribbean Food Systems for 2025 and Beyond’.

Guyana partners with Blumberg Grain to boost regional food hub, exports

In a landmark move to accelerate Guyana’s regional leadership in food security and agri-business development, the Government of Guyana on Wednesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Blumberg Grain, a renowned US-based agricultural company, to market and brand the regional food hub currently under construction at Yarrowkabra, along the Soesdyke-Linden Highway.

Japan and Colombia appoint new ambassadors to CARICOM

The governments of Japan, and the Republic of Colombia have appointed new Ambassadors to the Caribbean Community (CARICOM). The accreditation ceremonies took place on Tuesday, July 1, at the CARICOM Secretariat in Georgetown, Guyana.

CARICOM Secretary-General accepted the Letter of Credence from the new Ambassador of Japan to CARICOM, His Excellency Dr. UMEZAWA Akima noting that the CARICOM Secretariat headquarters, funded by Japan, stands as a testament to the enduring strength of CARICOM-Japan relations.

Government of Guyana, CARICOM Development Fund ink US$18M Agricultural Agreement

The Government of Guyana and the CARICOM Development Fund (CDF) yesterday signed a US$18 million financing agreement to kickstart the Agricultural and Infrastructural Development Programme (AIDP), which will see over 4,300 farmers across the ten regions of Guyana benefitting, with forty per cent of the beneficiaries being women and youth. The programme will allow for a further boost to Guyana’s agriculture sector in the form of support for compliance with food safety, sanitary and phytosanitary standards in the sector.

CARIFORUM Team Supports EPA Implementation in Barbados

(CARIFORUM Directorate, CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) - Barbados is now better positioned to realise greater benefits from the CARIFORUM-European Union (EU) and CARIFORUM-United Kingdom (UK) Economic Partnership Agreements, following in-country sessions from 16-17 June, with support from the CARIFORUM Directorate.
