UNESCO Talk: Spotlight on Gender Equality and Artificial Intelligence in the Caribbean.

Nov 25, 2020

UNESCO invites you to participate at the UNESCO Talk: Spotlight on Gender Equality and Artificial Intelligence in the Caribbean.
The UNESCO Talk is an interactive format that aims to discuss how to imagine, design and develop an emancipatory Artificial Intelligence (AI) that does not reproduce gender biases and stereotypes, but rather fully contributes to  achieve  gender  equality. By inviting experts from different fields, we envision concrete possibilities for the development of inclusive AI strategies in the Caribbean Small Island Developing States (SIDS).

UNESCO is the lead UN agency for the elaboration of a Recommendation on the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence, and gender equality considerations are also taken into account in this global normative framework. In light of this process, UNESCO recently published the report, Artificial Intelligence and Gender Equality, which sets forth proposed elements of a Framework on Gender Equality and AI for further consideration, discussion and elaboration amongst various stakeholders. It is also crucial to closely examine how AI codes of ethics can and should be implemented in practical terms, including in Small Island Developing States.

The UNESCO Cluster Office for the Caribbean launched in 2019 the Caribbean Artificial Intelligence Initiative. The Initiative aims to raise awareness and promote reflection on the opportunities and challenges that AI and its correlated technologies pose in the Caribbean SIDS.
