Representatives from the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) have joined their counterparts from across the globe for the two-week Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Biodiversity Convention (COP16 ) now underway in Cali, Colombia. COP16 sessions began on Monday, 21 October.
CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana - Monday, 21 October 2024: “When we look at transforming education in the Region, we do so against the backdrop of shaping one prosperous common future for all.” These sentiments were shared by Mr Elvis Morain, Chair of the Meeting of Officials ahead of the 48th Meeting of the Council for Human and Social Development (COHSOD) – Education, and Permanent Secretary with responsibility for Human Resource and Educational Development at the Ministry of
Director of Human and Social Development at the CARICOM Secretariat, Ms Helen Royer, advocates for an inclusive and strategic approach to effectively respond to the emerging challenges faced by the Region’s education system, including the gaps resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic.
"So today, as we discuss the strategic actions that we will take to Strengthen the Region’s Education System, I encourage you to see the Caribbean Community as One People. As we review the CARICOM Human Resource Development 2030 Strategy, we do so knowing that we are on One Journey – even if we are at different points. And when we look at transforming education in the Region, we do so against the backdrop of shaping One prosperous common Future for all.”

GEORGE TOWN, Cayman: The Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) has announced a series of key initiatives aimed at reshaping education systems across the region, as outlined by Acting President, Mr. Isaac Solomon at the Bank’s inaugural Regional Symposium and Policy Dialogue on Transforming Education currently underway in George Town, Cayman.
“CARICOM Heads of Governments expressed deep concern about the high levels of crime and violence in the Region, driven in part by firearms and ammunition trafficking, transnational criminal networks, and a breakdown of social structures, and the impact of crime and violence on young people and children.”
"This timely Symposium provides the opportunity to accelerate the implementation of the CARICOM Human Resource Development 2030 Strategy. The CARICOM Secretariat is looking forward to collaborating with the CDB and other partners to use the outputs of the Symposium to transform the education system to unlock Caribbean human potential."
