Three Regional Heads attend new UWI Vice-Chancellor’s installation

Three of the Region’s Heads of Government were part of a distinguished audience which witnessed the installation of Professor Sir Hillary Beckles as the eight Vice Chancellor of the University of the West Indies (UWI), Saturday 30 May, 2015.

Prime Minister of The Bahamas and Chairman of CARICOM, Rt. Hon. Perry Christie, Prime Minister of Barbados, Rt. Hon. Freundel Stuart and Prime Minister of St. Vincent and the Grenadines Dr. Hon. Ralph Gonsalves attended the ceremony, at the Usain Bolt Sports Complex  in Barbados.

The UWI is the largest, longest serving institution of higher learning in the Commonwealth Caribbean with three physical campuses in Barbados and Trinidad and Tobago, and an Open Campus. The Vice-Chancellor is the UWI’s principal academic and administrative officer.

Before assuming the Office of Vice-Chancellor, Sir Hillary was Principal and Pro Vice-Chancellor of UWI’s Cave Hill Campus in Barbados for thirteen years.
