Stem cell research and treatment facility to be established in St Kitts

BASSETERRE, St Kitts (WINN) -- Plans are in the works to establish a stem cell research and treatment center in St Kitts in the near future. The plans were make public at a press conference organized by the St Kitts biomedical Research Foundation following the Foundation’s Strategy Conference on Reverse Aging Treatments in the presence of several international scientists and stem cell research experts.

The plan is to have established at Christophe Harbor, a luxury health and wellness spa to deliver stem cell treatments to reverse the failure of the body’s own stem cells to replace critical cell populations and its contribution to aging.

A group of investors in this initiative is led by Peter Nygard, chairman of Nygard International. He explained the importance of stem cell treatment and its economic potentials.

Nygard was asked whether he thought the laws and legislations would be put in place in time for this initiative to be implemented. He said he was hoping to have the facility constructed at Christophe Harbor within two years.

But why St Kitts for such a facility? Dr Eugene Redmond, the president of the St Kitts Biomedical Research Foundation, explained why. The Foundation, with facilities in Bourryeau Estate, is said to be the leading institution in the world able to carry out critical monkey studies that are needed to move into clinical applications.

The group said they have received a positive response from the government of St Kitts and Nevis and were greeted by Deputy Prime Minister Shawn Richards at its opening session and dinner on Thursday evening.
