Caribbean HIV/AIDS Partnership Named Global Best Practice By CARICOM and UNAIDS

(CARICOM Secretariat, Georgetown, Guyana) Monday, 13 December 2004 is a significant day for the Caribbean region in its fight against HIV/AIDS. On this day, the joint CARICOM/UNAIDS Secretariat publication: Common Goals, Shared Responses: A Case Study on the Pan-Caribbean Partnership Against HIV/AIDS - PANCAP will be launched at the Half Moon Hotel, in Montego Bay, Jamaica.

STATEMENT ISSUED BY THE TWENTY-THIRD MEETING OF THE COUNCIL FOR HUMAN AND SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT (COHSOD XX111) ON SEXUAL ABUSE OF CHILDREN IN THE CARIBBEAN REGION

CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The Twenty-Third Meeting of the CARICOM Council on Human and Social Development (COHSOD XXIII) views with grave concern the alarming prevalence of sexual abuse of children in Member States. COHSOD reviewed the overwhelming evidence documented in recent studies that points to new and emerging forms of abuse against both girls and boys. COHSOD denounces all forms of abuse of children, recognizing that other forms of abuse provide preconditions and the environment for sexual abuse.

STATEMENT ON THE RECOVERY AND reCONSTRUCTION OF HAITI ISSUED by THE TWENTY-SECOND INTER-SESSIONAL MEETING OF THE CONFERENCE OF HEADS OF GOVERNMENT OF THE CARIBBEAN COMMUNITY (CARICOM) 25-26 FEBRUARY 2011, ST. GEORGE’S, GRENADA

CARICOM Heads of State and Government recalled that at their Meeting in July last year, they bemoaned the lack of progress in the implementation of the Haiti Action Plan and called on the international donor community to make good on the pledges and promises made to Haiti. This they saw as critical for the Government of Haiti to begin to provide durable shelter for the internally displaced persons, remove the rubble and replace and augment the institutional capacity of the Government to make good on its responsibilities.
