May 20, 2013

St. John’s Antigua- St Vincent & the Grenadines Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves will deliver a public lecturer here next Thursday as Antigua & Barbuda celebrates the 50th anniversary of the African Unity/African Union and the start of Africa Year.
Gonsalves, who has been insisting that the Caribbean must remain part of the leadership on the debate of reparation for slavery, has accepted an invitation from the Antigua & Barbuda Reparations Support Commission (RSC) to speak on the topic “The Struggle for Reparations: A Caribbean Imperative” on May 23.
Gonsalves and Barbadian historian and academic, Sir Hilary Beckles, who is also pro-vice Chancellor of the University of the West Indies (UWI), have been urging regional countries to begin efforts aimed at seeking some form of reparation from Western countries for slavery.
