CARICOM saddened by loss of life after earthquake in Haiti

The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) is deeply saddened by the loss of life following the 5.9 magnitude earthquake that struck Haiti on Sunday 7 October, 2018. At least 15 people were killed and more than 300 were injured.

In a message to Haiti President, His Excellency Jovenel Moise, CARICOM Secretary-General, Ambassador Irwin LaRocque extended condolences the families who lost loved ones.

Wholehearted Caribbean Community support for Belize on its 37th Independence Anniversary

The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) has restated its wholehearted support for Belize’s stance on its sovereignty as the country celebrates 37 years of independence.

CARICOM Secretary-General Ambassador Irwin LaRocque in a congratulatory message to Prime Minister Dean Barrow  noted that the theme of the celebrations, “Belize Da Fi Wi – Now and Forever 8867!”, highlights the staunch position of Belizeans that their country unequivocally belongs to them, a position the Caribbean Community wholeheartedly supports.

Isaac expected to reach Eastern Caribbean islands Thursday

A Tropical Storm Warning remains in effect for Dominica, Guadeloupe and Martinique, and a Tropical Storm Watch for Antigua/Barbuda, Montserrat, St. Kitts/Nevis, Saba and St. Eustatius.  However, forecasters say  Tropical Storm Isaac’s maximum sustained winds have decreased from 75 to about 60 mph (95 km/h) and further gradual weakening is expected during the next few days.

Issues impacting lives of CARICOM Citizens get attention at COFAP Meeting in Barbados

CARICOM Finance and Planning Ministers were meeting in Barbados Tuesday to advance a number of development initiatives geared towards enhancing the use and operation of the Single Market and Economy.

It is the sixth Special Meeting of the Council for Finance and Planning (COFAP) and was convened under the Chairmanship of Antigua and Barbuda’s Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Mr Gaston Browne.
