This is an important event for the youth of the Caribbean and indeed for the CARICOM Community. This evening we are actually here to launch the activities of the CARICOM Commission on Youth Development, which was mandated by the Conference of Heads of Government in July 2006. It is my pleasure as the Lead Head for Youth Affairs, Gender, Culture and Sport to welcome you all to the Republic of Suriname.

This afternoon, the pleasure is mine to sign a Cooperation and Consultation Agreement on behalf of the CARICOM Secretariat with the International Committee of the Red Cross.

On behalf of the Government and People of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and on my own behalf, I welcome the distinguished Heads of State and Government, the esteemed Heads of International and regional organsations, and their respective delegations, and all other invited guests to St. Vincent and the Grenadines, a fountain head of regional integration from which the unpolluted streams of Caribbean unity flows.

PRELIMINARY STATEMENT BY THE CARIBBEAN COMMUNITY (CARICOM) ELECTORAL OBSERVER MISSION ON THE GENERAL ELECTIONS IN THE TURKS AND CAICOS ISLANDS

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) At the invitation of the Governor General of Turks and Caicos Islands, a three-member CARICOM Electoral Observer Mission critically observed the General Elections held on Friday, 9 February 2007.

The Mission comprised Mr. Carson Raggie, Supervisor of Elections, Saint Lucia/Head of Mission, Mr. Elon Daniels, Internal Auditor, Electoral Office, Jamaica, and Ms Mignon Bowen, Project Officer, CARICOM Secretariat.
