​(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) A pleasant good morning, On behalf of the Government and people of Belize as well as the board of directors, management and staff of the Statistical Institute of Belize, it gives me great pleasure to welcome all of you to the opening ceremony of the 36th Standing Committee of Caribbean Statisticians Meeting, the 21st Regional Census Coordinating Committee Meeting and the 4th Regional Statistics Research Seminar.

​(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) I am much honoured to share a few remarks with you today on the opening of the 36th Standing Committee of Caribbean Statisticians and the 21st Regional Census Coordinating Committee meetings. It is just two years ago that I had the opportunity to address the High Level Advocacy Forum on Statistics that was held in Trinidad and Tobago.

 I feel privileged to be associated with this most important, timely and necessary event and feel humbled that my country was chosen as host.

We are honoured in the Commonwealth of Dominica, to be hosting the 10th Caribbean Week of Agriculture and the many very important discussions and fora under the auspices of our august regional agencies and international organisations.

​(CARICOM, Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater, Georgetown, Guyana) I am very pleased to extend to you all a very warm Nature Island welcome. As you have already observed Dominica, the Nature Island of the Caribbean is still covered with up to 60% forest nourished by almost 200 inches of average annual rainfall, manifested by 365 rivers.

I welcome you here to a friendly and natural environment to celebrate with us the 10th Caribbean Week of Agriculture under the theme “Caribbean Food and Nutrition Security in a Changing Climate: The Nature Island Experience”.
